For 20 years, Sharing the Harvest Community Farm has been growing more than fresh produce - it has been growing hope, community, and a healthier SouthCoast.
Sharing the Harvest began in 2006 when YMCA Southcoast and United Way of Greater New Bedford came together with a shared goal: preventing hunger in our community. What started as a collaborative effort has grown into a remarkable community resource, producing fresh, nutritious food for local hunger relief programs and United Way of Greater New Bedford's Mobile Market.
With a small team of employees and hundreds of dedicated volunteers each year, the farm has now donated more than 1 million pounds of food to our community!
On September 3, United Way of Greater New Bedford and YMCA Southcoast came together at Sharing the Harvest Community Farm to celebrate two decades of impact.
The celebration brought together current and former volunteers, community partners, and many of the people who helped make the farm possible - including those who were there when Sharing the Harvest first began in 2006. At the event we also honored long-time volunteer Nancy Kurtz and The King Family who helped shape the farm to what it is today.
To celebrate this incredible milestone, we created a special video featuring John Calnan and Gary Schuyler and sharing the story of how Sharing the Harvest began, how it has grown, and the impact it has made over the past 20 years.
We are grateful to everyone who has been part of the Sharing the Harvest story over the past two decades. Together, we have grown and shared more than 1 million pounds of fresh food and we can't wait to see what the next 20 years bring!
