Foster Family Appreciation

Foster Care MonthEach May, United Way’s New Bedford Community Connection Coalition brings our community together for the annual Foster Family Appreciation Dinner, a special evening of gratitude during National Foster Care Month. This heartfelt event honors more than 100 local families who open their homes to children in need of safety, stability, and care. The evening features inspiring words from guest speakers, live entertainment, and a memorable meal prepared by Century House in Acushnet.

While the night is a celebration, it also shines a light on an ongoing need in our community. Too many children, through no fault of their own, face uncertain and difficult circumstances when they can no longer live at home. In these moments, foster families provide a safe harbor where children can feel secure and supported.

Right now, there is a critical need for foster families in Greater New Bedford. Whether you are a young couple, an empty nester, a single parent, or a same-sex couple, you can make a meaningful difference. The Department of Children and Families is seeking individuals and families who can offer consistency, compassion, and kindness to children of all ages - from toddlers to teenagers.
