United Way of Greater New Bedford welcomed two new members to its Board of Directors, Jennifer Downing and Morgan Diaz, as well as its new Chair Dr. Shanna Howell, at its Annual Meeting in late October.
“We are pleased to have these two accomplished leaders join our Board of Directors,” said President and CEO Michelle N. Hantman. “I look forward to working with them and Dr. Howell as the United Way takes on new challenges and finds new ways of helping our community progress.”
Jennifer Downing is Executive Director of the New Bedford Ocean Cluster, where she brings more than 20 years of nonprofit experience. She previously worked with the Buzzards Bay Coalition and was Executive Director of Leadership Southcoast. She also is chair of the Acushnet School Committee. She holds a BFA from Marymount Manhattan College and an MA in Leadership, Public Policy and Social Issues from Union Institute & University.
Morgan Diaz is Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Partnerships at athenahealth, where she leads the organization’s strategy, operations and partnerships. She previously was Senior Vice President, Operations, Marketing and Business Development at Now Optics, and worked with CVS Health and Staples. She has served on the Board of Directors of Prevent Blindness, a nonprofit organization devoted to eye health and safety. She holds a BBA from Salve Regina University and an MA in Integrated Marketing Communication from Emerson College.
In addition to welcoming new members, the United Way board named a new slate of officers. Dr. Howell, chair, is Dean of the New Bedford campus of Bristol Community College. She leads an executive committee comprising Vice Chair Christopher Fortier, Chief Pharmacy Officer, Massachusetts General Hospital; Treasurer Jennifer Olivier, Signing Director, CliftonLarsonAllen; Clerk Jennifer St. Pierre, CFO and Treasurer, BankFive, and Immediate Past Chair Roland Giroux, EVP and Chief Legal Officer, Acushnet Company.
