John Silva joined United Way of Greater New Bedford in April 2024 as the Director of the New Bedford Community Connections Coalition (NBCCC), which works to prevent child abuse and neglect, strengthen families, and build healthier communities.

Since coming on board, John has been actively connecting families with vital resources, supporting foster families and those involved with the Department of Children and Families, and serving on several local community boards to raise awareness around critical issues such as substance misuse and recovery, homelessness, and meeting basic needs.

A recent graduate of Leadership SouthCoast—a program designed to engage, educate, and empower diverse individuals to become community leaders—John is dedicated to strengthening the South Coast region through active leadership and collaboration.

Before joining United Way, John served as a Community Outreach Prevention Educator Advocate at The Women’s Center and currently facilitates the Nurturing Fathers Program in Fall River, bringing his passion for family support and community engagement to every role he takes on.
