United Way Welcomes Officers and New Members to the Board of Directors

Strong leadership is what it takes to fight for the health, education, and income stability of every person in Greater New Bedford. United Way of Greater New Bedford welcomed new Board Members at their recently held Annual Meeting.

Anthony Baird, Jennifer Olivier, Maegan Powers, and Michelle Saltmarsh were nominated and elected as new members of United Way’s Board of Directors. The Board of Directors provides direction, support, guidance, and governance to the organization by engaging local leaders as committed volunteers and leveraging expertise to advance the work of United Way.

“As United Way continues to grow its programs and initiatives and diversify its revenue sources, the Board of Directors will provide their expertise, support, and guidance to advance our work,” said Michelle N. Hantman, President & CEO of United Way of Greater New Bedford. “Our new Board Members each provide unique perspectives and possess strong qualities that will help move United Way forward in the coming years. I look forward to working with each of them.”

Dr. Baird serves as the Director of Corporate Program Development at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. For over fifteen years, he has served with a number of organizations including the National Association for College & Employers, the New Bedford Economic Development Center Council, and as a Board Member & Chair of the Alumni Network Committee for Leadership SouthCoast.

 

 

Ms. Olivier is a Manager in CliftonLarsonAllen’s Audit and Accounting Practice. She has a strong financial background and has a passion for working with non-profits. She serves as a docent art teacher and as a grant reviewer for the CliftonLarsonAllen Foundation.

 

 

Ms. Powers is the Vice President of Retail Event Operations at Summit Retail Solutions, which she co-founded with her husband in 2010. She has over fifteen years of brand management experience and has worked in markets around the world. She enjoys volunteering and is an active host with the Fresh Air Program.

 

 

Ms. Saltmarsh is a Real Estate Agent with Anne Whiting Real Estate. With experience in small business ownership and real estate, Ms. Saltmarsh knows what it takes to build and grow community relationships.

 

 

In addition to the appointment of the new Board Members, Officers were also elected at this time. Roland Giroux, Vice President/General Counsel at Acushnet Company was re-elected as Board Chair, Scott Dubois, Co-Founder of Pidalia was re-elected as Vice Chair; Vernon Miles, Branch Manager of RMS was elected as 2nd Vice Chair; Jennifer Olivier, was elected as Treasurer; Christopher Hodgson, Principal of Coastal Financial will serve as Clerk and Beth Sylvia Caldwell, Vice President of Caldwell Architectural Associates will serve as Immediate Past Chair on the Executive Committee.

United Way‘s leadership team also gave an update on their programs and role in Greater New Bedford at the Annual Meeting. Whether it is as non-profit fundraiser, funder, provider, or convener, United Way continues to fight for residents in our community by identifying and working on the root challenges to improve the quality of life for everyone in Greater New Bedford.
