- Our Work
New Bedford Community Connections Coalition has been a United Way of Greater New Bedford Program for nearly 2 decades. The primary mission of NBCCC is to take a leadership role within the City of New Bedford in facilitating collaborative strategies to build neighborhood-based networks of family support to prevent child abuse and neglect, strengthen families and build healthier communities. Through our Family Resource and Development Center we have served hundreds of families that have needed support in providing the basic needs for themselves and their children. We have also created opportunities for parents to have positive interactions with their children through activities such as parent/child play groups, parent education groups and events such as attending the day at the Boston Children’s Museum and Fathers/Family Fun Day at the Buttonwood Zoo.
We believe “it takes a village to raise a child” and together, with our partners that the resources and supports will be provided that are necessary to strengthen and nurture our children, families, and neighborhoods.

Massachusetts Family Resource Centers (FRCs) are a statewide network of community-based providers offering multi-cultural parenting programs, support groups, early childhood services, information and referral resources and education for families whose children range in age from birth to 18 years of age. United Way’s Family Resource and Development Center is one of the 14 FRCs in Massachusetts. FRCs are located across the state to provide easy access to information and assistance related to health care, safety, employment training, education and peer support. The goal of FRCs is to support families to strengthen their bonds, connect to others, and engage in their community. Our core values are: RESPECT, TRUST, SAFETY, WELLNESS, CARING, CONNECTIVITY, and EDUCATION. To learn more about Family Resource Centers, visit their website at http://www.frcma.org/

This is a cognitive behavioral therapy group for teens which helps clients restructure their thinking and learn to make positive choices, take responsibility for those choices and learn new healthy behaviors. The group helps teenagers look at what or who is making their decisions or rowing their boat. Are they going gently down the stream or rocking down the stream.
