In Greater New Bedford, we are lucky to have so many dedicated volunteers that help local non-profits achieve their missions. These volunteers put in thousands of hours of work each year and what they accomplish far surpasses any expectations. At United Way of Greater New Bedford alone, volunteers worked over 1,800 hours last year, valuing over $52,000! Imagine what that total is if we added up volunteer hours from all the non-profit organizations in Greater New Bedford.

The week of April 15th – 21st is National Volunteer Week. This week is a time for non-profits locally, nationally, and globally to reflect on the work done by volunteers each year, encourage and inspire others to get involved, and of course THANK the current volunteers for their support. Volunteers, no matter the time commitment, age, or ability, are the backbone of any non-profit organization, they help to make the impossible, possible.

If you do not already volunteer but are interested in making a difference, start by visiting our online volunteer database at Volunteer SouthCoast has hundreds of volunteer opportunities listed for people of all ages and levels of commitment. Now is the time to get involved and share you time and talent to improve our community.

Thank you again to all of the volunteers who have served with us over the past year, you truly know what it means to LIVE UNITED!
