Mass 2-1-1 is a free, confidential, referral hotline that connects residents to local information on critical health and human services. Mass 2-1-1 can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by simply dialing 2-1-1, visiting mass211.org or texting your zip code to 877-211-6277. United Ways statewide partner with the Massachusetts Association and Referral Specialists (MAIRS) to provide the resources to operate Mass 2-1-1. Callers receive the most up-to-date information in areas such as support groups, child care facilities, utility assistance, government benefits or crisis response programs. Last year, 1,610 calls were made to Mass 2-1-1 from Greater New Bedford.
Mass 2-1-1 recently merged with Call2Talk – a confidential, emotional support line that assists individuals and families through stressful times including those that are despondent and those who may be considering suicide. Call2Talk is a National Suicide Prevention Lifeline Crisis Center. Call2Talk also provides Telecheck, which is a telephone check-in service for isolated older adults living at home. Trained Call2Talk staff provide phone based visits, support and friendly conversation one to two times per week.
