Makiah is certified in TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and through the National Therapist Certification Program. Her role is unique as she works for Child & Family Services but sits within the Family Resource & Development Center and works directly with families coming to the FRC.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from UMass Dartmouth and a master’s degree in social work from Regis College. She has spent the past decade working with the families and youth of Greater New Bedford community, and she enjoys the region’s natural beauty, history and diverse culture.

She describes herself as an “outgoing introvert,” who likes to laugh and enjoys listening to music, swimming, going on adventures and singing.
