NEW BEDFORD, MA – Fun 107 and 1420 WBSM are teaming up with United Way of Greater New Bedford for the 27th year to collect non-perishable and canned goods for the holidays. Hunger Heroes Food Drop will be held at Buttonwood Park on Saturday, November 16th from 10 am – 2 pm, to benefit the Hunger Heroes Project.

“WBSM has always centered its philosophy around community and broadcasting events that define our city. Hunger Heroes Food Drop optimizes the love and caring the radio station has for our community,” said WBSM morning show host Phil Paleologos.

This event helps local families in need have a delicious meal on Thanksgiving. The food that is collected at Hunger Heroes Food Drop goes directly to United Way’s “Hunger Heroes” event, taking place on Saturday, November 23rd at Keith Middle School located at 225 Hathaway Road in New Bedford.

“This has been one of the most important events we do all year,” said Michael Rock, Operations Manager and Host of ‘The Michael Rock Show on Fun 107. “Our listeners have helped feed our friends and neighbors by donating food to thousands of families. Nothing represents the spirit of Thanksgiving better.”

“Hunger Heroes” is planning to package 1,000 Thanksgiving meals which will be given to local food pantries. Last year, this event helped feed over 500 struggling families. “Hunger Heroes” is the largest collection of its kind in the Greater New Bedford area.

“Hunger Heroes Food Drop and Hunger Heroes bring the best of our community out,” said Victoria Grasela, VP of Marketing & Community Engagement for United Way of Greater New Bedford. “It shows what we can accomplish by working together and Living United. Seeing all 1,000 meals packaged and ready to be delivered is a humbling feeling like no other – just knowing how many people came together to make it possible.”

Fun 107 and WBSM are proud to be helping United Way in its mission to make sure local struggling families have their own Thanksgiving meal. Be sure to join us in tackling our 1,000-meal goal by dropping off non-perishables and canned goods like vegetables, instant mashed potatoes, bread mix, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, and dessert mixes at Buttonwood Park on Saturday, November 16th, anytime between 10 am and 2 pm inside the Buttonwood Park Community Center. Volunteers will be on hand to collect donations, and you won’t even need to leave your car!
