14th ANNUAL CLAMBAKE WITH LOBSTER FUNDRAISER - Friday, June 13th
The Annual Clambake with Lobster is United Way of Greater New Bedford’s premiere fundraiser.  This year's event - sponsored once again by Sea Land Energy - was the most sucessful ever, raising $30,000 for United Way's programs and agencies.

The waterfront event took place on Friday, June 13th on Pier 3 in historic downtown New Bedford, garnering an attendance of approximately 700 people.  Guests enjoyed a traditional New England clambake while enjoying live music by Wired, dancing, and an incredible silent auction throughout the evening.

DAY OF CARING – The United Way of Greater New Bedford partners with local companies for the Day of Caring, an annual event that takes place in September and allows area non-profits to receive assistance with projects that they normally would not have the resources to complete. Projects range from painting to landscaping to working in a soup kitchen - and much more!

THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO GET INVOLVED IN YOUR COMMUNITY!  If your company or agency is interested in participating in the Day of Caring, please contact Caroline Cuccia @ 508-994-9625, ext. 15 or via e-mail here.

YOUTH DAY OF CARING – Each May, the United Way of Greater New Bedford pairs non-profit agencies with students from local highschools to provide them with much needed assistance on various projects. In addition to benefiting the organizations that participate, this event encourages students to play an active role in their community.

The 13th Annual Youth Day of Caring, which took place on Thursday, May 1st, provided 150 student volunteers from 7 area highschools the opportunity to volunteer at 19 different local nonprofit agencies, providing them with first-hand experience in giving back to their community.

“This event provides young people with a unique opportunity to volunteer, some of whom have never been exposed to the idea before,” said Michelle N. Hantman, United Way President.  “It is our hope that today will be their first step in a life long commitment to community service,” she said.

This year’s event coincideed with National Volunteer Week, April 27th – May 3rd.

Area high schools that took part in the Youth Day of Caring were:  Fairhaven High School, Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, Global Learning Charter Public School, New Bedford High School, Old Colony High School, Old Rochester Regional High School and Westside High School.

Other agencies that took part in the Youth Day of Caring were: American Red Cross, Better Community Living, Boy Scouts of America (Narragansett Council), Coastline Elderly Services, Community Nurse & Hospice Care, Damien’s Place Family Pantry, Girl Scouts of Southeastern MA at Camp Greenbrier, Harbour House Family Shelter, Immigrants’ Assistance Center, Market Ministries, The Nemasket Group, Northstar Learning Centers, PeaceWorks!, The Salvation Army, Wareham Child Care, YMCA of Southeastern MA (Dartmouth, Mattapoisett and Wareham locations) and the YWCA of Southeastern MA.
